Eric and Otis are bonded brothers who came into rescue together from a colony and have moved through life as a pair ever since. From the start, they have been closely attached, always aware of where the other is, and very clearly happiest when they are together. With their striking silver and white coats and elegant features, they often prompt the question of whether there is some pedigree somewhere in their ancestry, though thankfully they come without any airs or graces.
Eric is the larger presence, both in size and in personality. He is bold, outgoing and playful, with an enthusiasm for life that extends to almost everything, but most especially to food. There is very little Eric does not enjoy. He loves playtime, human company and cuddles, and has a particular fondness for being cradled like a baby and gently rocked, something he accepts as though it were his due. He is also an accomplished napper and takes his role as a sofa companion seriously, often settling in for a midday snooze that leaves his human firmly trapped beneath him.
Otis, by contrast, is the quieter brother. He is shy at first, but inquisitive, very gentle and deeply sweet once he has had the time and space to build trust. He enjoys dinner time just as much as Eric and is particularly fond of his scratch post. When he feels comfortable, he will roll around at your feet asking for a head scratch, a moment that feels all the more special for having been earned. Otis appreciates having access to quiet spaces, preferably somewhere high up, where he can observe the world at his own pace. Prospective adopters should be mindful that if he can get up there, he will, and he will need to be able to get back down again.
The boys have settled beautifully into a routine. They sleep through the night and, while their humans are out during the day, tend to do what cats do best and sleep through most of that as well. Meals are taken very seriously. They eat wet food morning and evening, which barely lasts five minutes, with dry food available to graze on during the day. Extra snacks such as KitKat or Churu-style treats are received with great enthusiasm. Eric’s love of food does mean he needs firm but fair boundaries; he has a habit of involving himself in human mealtimes unless gently redirected, and any unattended food left on the side will be assumed to be his. With clear boundaries, this is easily managed.
Together, Eric and Otis are a joy to watch. They play well and respectfully, chase and tumble without any drama, and are so well behaved with one another that it is not uncommon to find them curled up together on the sofa. They share toys happily too. They both love their tunnel, which is used equally for hiding and ambushing, depending on mood. Eric is particularly keen on chasing a worm-on-a-string toy and will enthusiastically kick his catnip mouse from room to room. Otis prefers a more considered approach to play and has a special fondness for his motorised butterfly toy.
Both cats are extremely loving with humans and have no aggressive behaviours. Otis did gently scratch once early on, when he was frightened and unfamiliar with his surroundings, but this was an isolated incident and very much not indicative of his nature. With time, patience and a calm environment, he has shown himself to be a cat who would not intentionally harm anyone. Given their temperaments, they would likely do very well in a family home, including one with children who understand how to give animals space.
Eric and Otis are looking for a home together. Their bond is strong, supportive and clearly important to them, and they thrive in one another’s company. In the right home, they will reward their people with affection, gentle companionship, moments of quiet comedy and the particular pleasure of watching two brothers who have already been through a lot, settle fully into the life they deserve.
