Some cats burst into your life from the very first day. Finnegan prefers a slower introduction. He believes that the very best friendships are built on patience, gentle encouragement and a few tasty treats along the way.
After just five weeks in foster care, he has already come such a long way. The nervous boy who once hid from every movement has gradually begun to seek out affection, enjoy interactive play and show his wonderfully gentle personality. Watching his confidence grow has been one of the greatest joys for his foster carer and there is every reason to believe he will continue to flourish in a calm, understanding home.
A little glimpse into his world
Finnegan has a wonderfully predictable daily routine. Mornings are usually reserved for long naps, while early evenings are when he truly comes to life. He loves chasing balls and string toys, happily entertaining himself before inviting his favourite person to join in. Recently, he has even started pausing between play sessions for gentle strokes before heading back for another round of games. It is a small milestone that says a great deal about how far he has come.
One of Finnegan’s sweetest habits is making biscuits while standing whenever he is especially happy. He is also delightfully talkative and will happily chat away as he goes about his day, adding plenty of character to the home.
Although affectionate, Finnegan still finds direct approaches a little overwhelming. If he is resting comfortably or curled up in his favourite loaf position, he enjoys gentle fuss and attention. If someone walks directly towards him, however, his instinct is often still to move away. He isn’t being unfriendly, he’s simply learning that people can always be trusted. He doesn’t enjoy being picked up or held and isn’t currently a lap cat, although he is becoming increasingly comfortable sharing the sofa with his humans.
Because he is naturally cautious, Finnegan is looking for adopters who will let him set the pace. A quiet home with patient people who understand that confidence cannot be rushed will help him continue the wonderful progress he has already made. Interactive play each evening will be an important part of building his trust and strengthening the bond between him and his new family.
Medical information
Finnegan is missing his back teeth, so his food simply needs a little adjustment. Mixing wet food with his dry food helps him eat comfortably, while dry biscuits can be offered separately as treats, which he absolutely loves. Churu-style treats are a particular favourite and are also perfect for disguising any medication should he ever need it. He has excellent litter tray habits.
His ideal home
Children: Older, calm and respectful children may be considered, although a quiet adult home would likely suit him best.
Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor-only home.
Other cats: Untested.
Dogs: Untested.
Food: Enjoys both wet and dry food, with wet food mixed into his meals due to missing back teeth. Loves Churu treats.
Rescue story
Like so many rescue cats, Finnegan has experienced change and uncertainty before arriving in foster care. While we don’t know everything about his past, we do know that with patience, kindness and consistency he has already started to leave his worries behind. His journey is a lovely reminder that sometimes the quietest cats simply need someone willing to wait for them. In return, they reward that patience with trust that feels truly special.
