MISU

If your idea of the perfect cat is one who considers the house his playground, the cat tree his climbing wall and you his favourite entertainment, meet Misu.

Misu is a young Siberian with a huge personality. Clever, athletic, playful and wonderfully affectionate, he has that famously dog-like quality that makes Siberians such engaging companions. At just 1.5 years old, he is still very much in his high-energy youngster phase and he is looking for a family who will enjoy that rather than simply try to tire him out.

A bit about Misu’s day

For Misu, a good day involves plenty of play, climbing, jumping, hunting games and interaction with his humans.

He absolutely loves vertical space, so tall cat trees, climbing opportunities and plenty of interesting toys will make him a very happy boy. He is highly play-motivated and needs a home where enrichment is part of everyday life rather than something brought out occasionally.

Once he has finished conquering his kingdom, Misu also has a very sweet side. He is affectionate, enjoys being held and picked up and loves human attention, although he is only occasionally a lap cat. He is also perfectly capable of taking himself off for some independent time once the important business of playing is complete.

The fun stuff, and the things to know

Misu is playful, talkative, affectionate, intelligent and enormous fun. He also likes catnip and appears to believe that human food deserves further investigation.

His play style can be quite intense and sometimes rough. When he gets very excited he may play-bite hands, although his foster says this has never been an aggressive bite and has never broken the skin.

He can also become possessive of his imaginary "prey" during games. If another cat interferes, Misu may hiss or try to take the alpha role. This is why the personality and play style of any future feline companion will be particularly important.

Misu was also described as potentially destructive on his profile. In context, this goes hand in hand with his extremely high energy levels and need for regular stimulation. He is not a cat who will thrive if left bored with little to do.

Medical

No medical conditions have been reported and Misu is not currently taking any medication or following a special diet.

He is neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccinated and dewormed. He has tested negative for both FIV and FeLV.

Misu’s perfect family

Misu needs an active, engaged home that genuinely wants an interactive cat.

His ideal family will enjoy playing with him, provide plenty of toys, climbing opportunities and sensory enrichment and allow him to be part of family life throughout the home.

He would particularly suit someone who loves the idea of a cat with almost dog-like levels of interaction and personality.

Misu also needs an animal companion who can complement his energy. His current foster cat was originally a stray and does not always understand Misu’s enthusiastic style of play, so Misu would benefit from a confident, properly socialised companion who enjoys interaction too.

This gorgeous boy has a lot to give, but he needs a home prepared to give plenty back.

Kids: Misu has been described as both friendly and cautious around children, but his interactions with children have not been fully assessed. Any home with children would therefore need to be considered individually, particularly given his energetic and sometimes rough style of play.

Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor only. Misu needs plenty of space, vertical enrichment and opportunities to climb, explore and play. Secure enclosed outdoor enrichment would be a wonderful bonus if available.

Other cats: Yes. Misu has lived with another cat in foster care and is friendly with other cats. A well-socialised, confident cat who enjoys energetic play would be the best match. Misu can hiss or become possessive during hunting-style games if he feels another cat is trying to take his "prey", so careful matching and introductions will be important.

Dogs: Misu has not been assessed around dogs, so we cannot say confidently how he would respond. His foster believes that a suitably matched dog could potentially make a companion for him, but this would need to be assessed carefully.

Food: Misu eats both wet and dry food. He currently has Purina dry food during the day, with wet and dry food offered at night, and is generally fed two to three times each day.

He loves catnip and is also rather interested in human food, so unattended dinner plates may wish to consider themselves warned.

Rescue Story

Misu was found in a deserted area beside a running track, spotted by rescuers who happened to be out for their morning jog. Rather than the underweight, dishevelled stray they might have expected, they found a striking, well-kept Siberian, looking remarkably well for a cat left in such a location.

The suspicion is that Misu may have been a dumped pedigree cat. His character is full of personality, and we don't know if this was a case of his previous owners not being able to handle him and simply leaving him outside in the desert as a solution.

Whatever brought him there, Misu now has the chance at a home that understands exactly what he is: a clever, energetic, endlessly engaging cat who deserves people ready to match his enthusiasm rather than be overwhelmed by it.
