NIKO

Little Survivor, Big Purr

7 months old, spayed, female

Available

For adoption anywhere in the UK

Niko may be little, but she has already packed quite a lot of living into her first few months.

Affectionate, playful and wonderfully chatty, she is the kind of cat who doesn't simply want to live in your house. She wants to be part of whatever is happening in it. If there is a cuddle available, a toy to investigate or some family business requiring feline supervision, Niko would very much like to be involved.

A bit about Niko

Niko is a curious, interactive young cat who loves company and being close to her people. She is happiest sitting on or beside you and is particularly talented at what her foster describes as "deep purring cuddles".

Like any young cat, she also has her energetic moments and can suddenly decide that racing around the house at speed is an entirely sensible way to spend her time.

Her ideal day involves plenty of company, play, cuddles and, naturally, food.

Niko isn't a cat who enjoys being left alone or confined for long periods. After spending so much of her young life recovering in veterinary care and on cage rest, she now wants to be right in the middle of family life.

Her health

Niko came into rescue after being hit by a car and suffering significant injuries to her pelvis and hind leg.

She spent approximately 75 days in veterinary care, including an extended period of cage rest. At one stage it was thought that her leg might need to be amputated, but Niko had other ideas. She healed remarkably well and regained use of the leg.

She has also recovered from anaemia, mycoplasma and calicivirus.

Niko does retain some weakness and a mild floppy paw, but she is mobile, active and continuing to improve. Her future family will simply need to understand her history and keep an eye on her mobility as she grows.

Her perfect family

Niko would thrive in a loving home where she is treated as a genuine member of the family.

Because she loves interaction and companionship, a household where someone is home for a good part of the day would suit her particularly well. A family member who works from home could find themselves with a very enthusiastic new colleague.

She needs people who understand normal kitten behaviour, will give her plenty of play and affection and can offer the stability and security she deserves after such a difficult start.

Kids

Niko has spent time around a young toddler and coped well with the normal activity and noise of family life.

Indoor or outdoor? Indoor only.

Given Niko's previous injuries and the need to keep her mobility safe and monitored, she needs a secure indoor home.

Other cats

Niko is not currently living with other cats. Her vet has suggested that feline companionship may help her feel secure, so she could potentially live with another friendly cat with careful, gradual introductions.

Dogs

Niko's experience with dogs has not been provided, so a dog-free home would be preferred unless suitability can be assessed.

Food

Niko enjoys both wet and dry food. She has wet food morning and evening with dry food available for grazing during the day.

And, because life should contain a few luxuries, creamy and crunchy treats are also very welcome.

Rescue story

Niko is believed to have once been a domestic kitten before being abandoned in a community park.

Her life changed dramatically when she was hit by a car and found with serious injuries. What followed was nearly two and a half months of veterinary care, treatment and cage rest.

She arrived in foster care physically weak and understandably anxious after everything she had been through.

Slowly, that frightened little kitten began to disappear.

In her place emerged the playful, affectionate, curious girl she is today. Niko now races around the house, seeks out her humans, plays, chats and settles in for those enormous purrs.

She has already fought very hard for her second chance.

Now she just needs the family who will make that second chance her forever.
