All about Tiger
Meet Tiger. For a couple of years he lived in a basement car park, where kind people fed him, until one summer he turned up with a dislocated front elbow and had to be rescued. After surgery his leg has healed, and the big, gentle tabby who emerged has been making up for every cuddle he missed ever since.
Tiger is a large, soft-hearted boy of three, weighing up to 7 kg, and he is one of the most tactile cats you could hope to meet. He wants to be on your lap, on your belly or right beside you, and he takes every chance he gets.
Add to that a quiet voice, a clever head and a habit of waiting patiently for you to wake up, and you have a boy who is very easy to fall for. His foster carer certainly did.
A Bit About Tiger
Tiger is a lap cat of the most devoted kind. Sit down and he is on your lap within moments. Lie on the sofa and he settles on your belly, purring. He loves to push his head under your hand and ask for a stroke, and he would happily have his head, chin, nose and the back of his ears rubbed all day long.
At night he sleeps right beside you, and in the morning he is often awake first, quietly watching your face and waiting for you to open your eyes. The moment you do, he climbs onto your chest for his morning cuddles. He never wakes anyone; he simply waits until you are ready for him.
He is chatty but quiet, talking to his people in soft, purring sounds rather than loud meows, and he is much quieter than most cats. He is also a clever boy. When he needed inhalation treatment when just rescued and was sneezing, he walked into his carrier without a fuss, as if he understood it was helping him. He does not chew plastic or scratch the furniture, and he sticks to his scratching post.
His days are simple and happy: breakfast, long naps, a little bird-watching from the balcony and keeping you company while you get on with your day. Evenings are his favourite time, with play and dinner, and that is when he is at his most lively.
His Favourite Things
People and rest. Laps, bellies, a warm bed and a hand to rub his head are the very best parts of Tiger’s day.
Play comes a close second, especially a wand toy wriggling under a blanket, and kicker toys like fish that he can bite and wrestle. Balls do not interest him much (so far!). During the day he loves a dark, snug spot to sleep, and he would be thrilled with a cat house of his own.
Mealtimes are easy too. He eats Royal Canin Indoor, both dry and wet, and while he enjoys both, dry food is his clear favourite. He has a healthy appetite and does not overeat. Churu is his absolute favourite treat.
Things to Consider
Tiger’s back, sides and tummy are very sensitive. A couple of strokes along his back are fine, but if it gets too much he can become overstimulated and give a light nip, sometimes straight after asking for a stroke. Watching his signals (a flicking tail, turning ears or a sudden turn of the head) and sticking to his head and chin keeps everyone happy. In playful moods he may grab or gently nip with his paws, but he has never scratched anyone, and his claws are kept trimmed.
Tiger is afraid of strangers. When guests arrive, he disappears under the bed or onto the top of the kitchen cupboards and pretends he is not there. With his own people, though, he is a different cat entirely. He needs two to three days to settle into a new home, and a calm welcome and a little patience are all it takes.
He is happy to be left alone and will simply curl up and sleep, but he does need a play session every day when his people come home. He is also a bit of a messy eater who likes to bury his leftovers for later, so his water bowl is best kept a little away from his food.
Medical Information
Tiger is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated and FIV and FeLV negative. His dislocated front elbow has healed after surgery. He may limp a little after a long sleep, but otherwise he moves around without any trouble.
He is not taking any medication. He has sensitive skin, so strong scents in the house, such as candles, air fresheners and scented products, are best avoided, as they can bring him out in rash spots. He uses his litter tray and should stick to unscented litter.
The Ideal Home
Tiger needs a loving, patient home that wants a truly affectionate companion and is happy to read his signals. In return, he offers endless lap time, soft purrs and a furry face waiting for you every morning. Knowing he is a big boy, he will need his regular play sessions every day to release his energy!
Children: Best with older children, aged 10 and over, who can follow simple rules about how to stroke him. Not suited to a home with very young children.
Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor only, or indoors with access to a fully netted, secure catio.
Other Cats: Unknown, as he has not been tested with other cats. He is a very big boy and may be dominant, so any introduction should be slow and carefully managed.
Dogs: Unknown, as he has not been tested with dogs. Any introduction should be slow and carefully managed.
People: Afraid of strangers, but he adores his own people and is very tactile with them once he trusts them.
Food: Royal Canin Indoor, dry and wet. He loves both, but prefers dry food, and Churu is his favourite treat.
Rescue Story
Tiger lived in a basement car park for a couple of years, where kind people made sure he was fed. Life outdoors had clearly been hard on him.
This summer he turned up with a dislocated front elbow and had to be rescued. He had surgery, his leg has healed, and he has now been in foster care for a month. Through all his treatment he has been remarkably patient, as if he understood that people were finally helping him.
Now he is ready for a home of his own. Tiger is looking for a family who will let him curl up on their laps, sleep beside them and greet them every morning with a patient, purring face. Given that, he will give back all the love he missed out on, and more.
